Former Zamboanga del Norte representative and 2011 Palarong  Pambansa Executive Committee chairman Romeo G. Jalosjos Sr. said the other day that the holding of the national athletic meet in Dapitan City in May this  year would be irreversible.

Jalosjos said the 2011 Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan would take place as many elected officials have offered to help. “We started with a zero budget but the congressmen of the first and second districts of Zamboanga del Norte, the provincial governors of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay, the two congressmen of Zamboanga Sibugay, two congressmen from Kakusa and MBA party list groups and other sectors vowed to support,” Jalosjos said.

He also called on the other elected officials in the province to support the holding of Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan because “it is a rare opportunity to be hosting such a national event.”

Part of the preparations made by the food security committee headed by Provincial Agricultirist Maybel Bustaliño was to intensify food and livestock production to answer the food requirements during the whole duration of the event. She is tasked to make sure that the food requirements by the different delegations be sufficiently met during the occasion.

The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) headed by Atty. Ivan Patrick A. Ang is currently undertaking inventory of lodging facilities in both cities of Dipolog and Dapitan to prepare for the influx of guests from the different parts of the country who are coming for the Palarong Pambansa.

Around 10-15 thousand athletes, officiating officials and other delegates are expected to arrive in Dapitan.

It could be recalled that the regional directors of the Department of Education (DepED) had chosen Dapitan to be the host to the 2011 Palarong Pambansa because it is a historical site where Dr. Jose Rizal was exiled by the Spaniards for four years. Besides, they also wanted to spread development in the countryside. -- PIA-ZN
