Despite a weekend, Mayor Celso Lobregat led city government officials in the inauguration of various projects amounting to P5.7 million in barangay Culianan, yesterday, the fourth in a series of turnover of projects since January 1.

Inaugurated and turned over to Culianan barangay council led by OIC Pilar Alvarez, barangay health workers and other residents, were the 305-linear meter irrigation canal worth P1.49M, the 222-linear meter farm-to-market road amounting to P1.1 million, the 50-meter slope protection project costing P949Tand the Culianan Wellness Center worth P2.2M.

“Culianan is a testament of the accomplishments of our administration,” Lobregat said, as he turned over the projects along with District 2 Councilors Nonong Guingona, Mike Alavar, Percival Ramos and VP Elago; District 1 Councilors Myra Paz Abubakar and Rudy Lim; City Engineer Luis Despalo, his brother Jomar Lobregat, former City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo, Urban Poor president Violy Alejandro and young entrepreneur BG Guingona.

The newly constructed wellness center fulfills the city’s commitment to the promotion of health in Zamboanga and efforts towards a disease-free city. It is the newest addition to the growing Culianan Barangay Complex which already houses the barangay hall, police station, elderly center and Children in Conflict with the Law complex, among others.

The mayor urged barangay officials headed by OIC and Kagawad Pilar Alvarez to take care and make good use of the projects.

The unveiling of the four projects is evidence of the Lobregat administration’s commitment to the barangay. “There are projects for all our priorities and there are projects for all sectors of the city,” the mayor had said.

Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Carol Carabaña for her part vowed to further improve the delivery of health services to the people of Culianan.

Since January 9, Lobregat has been turning over project packages to various barangays in line with his administration’s massive infrastructure program. Recipient barangays include Sinunuc, Lumayang, Sacol Island and Pasobolong. — Claudine Uniana
