Operatives of the Coast Guard (PCG) are investigating what could have caused the explosion that rocked a cargo boat’s fantail (stern area) which left a passenger injured in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi Wednesday night.

Belated reports from the Coast Guard said the incident transpired at the Chinese Pier in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi where M/L Khalid, a 10.97 gross-register-ton launch, was docked.

Lt. Cmdr. Armand Balilo, PCG spokesperson, said the crew was loading sacks of dried fish and seaweed when the explosion transpired.

A passenger identified as Kabite Nurbite was injured in the left knee while the launch’s five crewmen, identified as Licanor Sabihen, Madnur Licanor, Jaime Licanor, Ahmad Bara, and Hassan Licanor were all unharmed.

Nurbite was immediately rushed to the Bongao Datu Halun Hospital.

He was later discharged after treatment.
