Vice mayoralty aspirant Mercy Arquiza-Fernandez of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) dismissed rumors she was withdrawing from the vice mayoral race in the May 2013 elections.

“That’s is absurd. That’s not true,” Arquiza said in an interview.

She said the gossips about her supposed withdrawal were part of what he called a ploy of his political detractors to discourage her supporters.

The lady vice mayoral aspirant is also one of the senior leaders of the Zamboangueños for the Transformation of Zamboanga (ZTZ) founded by former congressman Nonong Jalosjos, standard bearer and chairman of UNA Zamboanga Peninsula chapter.

“I have not made any official statement that I am withdrawing, resigning from the race or giving up my mayoral candidacy... whatever it is..I am staying here even if Nonong will run or not I will continue... no retreat, no surrender,” Arquiza said.

Taunting her critics, Arquiza said “those political opponents of mine or rumor mongers just pay attention to your own candidacy..that’s all!”

She believes that Jalosjos can still run despite an en banc Resolution of the Commission of Election (Comelec) cancelling and denying his Certificate of Candidacy.

“I still believe Nonong Jalosjos can run because I know there is still the decision of the Supreme Court... we’re still here as I have said, the ZTZ team is intact, we’re strong, vibrant in support of Nonong Jalosjos,” Arquiza further said.

Appealing to her supporters, Arquiza said, “no kre ese maga istorya que ta ase el di mio maga contra kay iyo ya man withdraw ya...si Mercy Arquiza ay taki pa y ta continua el fight hasta gana.” — HG
