Seven soldiers were wounded in an ambush staged by suspected Abu Sayyaf Group in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan yesterday morning.

A military report disclosed that Army soldiers were aboard a military vehicle that was passing Sungayot, Ungkaya Pukan before 8 a.m. when they were sprayed with bullets by gunmen positioned along the road.

The report said the soldiers came from a combat patrol and on their way back to their camp in Camalig, Ungkaya Pukan when the ambush took place.

The soldiers managed to return fire prompting the attackers to withdraw towards the hinterland.

The wounded soldiers were brought immediately to a hospital for treatment while other troops were dispatched and reinforced the soldiers in the area.
