Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has ordered the police to pursue criminal charges as well as arrest the suspects in yesterday’s ambush that resulted in the injury of seven soldiers based in the province.

Akbar’s statement came after she received report that suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits have staged an ambush and injured seven soldiers from the Army’s 4th Scout Ranger Battalion.

The troops were aboard a vehicle on their way to base when the bandits ambushed them around 7:40 a.m. yesterday in the boundary of Barangays Amaloy and Bohe Pahu in the municipality of Ungkaya Pukan.

Akbar said the suspects should be pursued to put an end to their atrocities citing they should not be left scot free.

They should be arrested since the atrocities they commit hinder the development of the different towns as well as that of the entire Basilan province, Akbar said.

One of the suspects has been identified by the police as Jannatin Madjakin, who was among the 31 inmates who were sprung out of the Basilan provincial jail in 2009.

Akbar at the same time has condemned those involved in the ambush for their treacherous acts against the soldiers, whose mission is to bring peace and security to the province.
