An intelligence operative of the Maritime Police was shot dead by one of two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Villa Sta. Maria yesterday afternoon.

Slain was PO3 Abdulhan Nassar, married, of the 9th Maritime Police based in Zamboanga City and a resident of Villa Sta. Maria.

Nassar died on the spot with multiple bullet wounds in the body.

Initial investigation disclosed that Nassar was driving his motorcycle, on his way home before 2 p.m. when another motorcycle with two men clad in combat uniform aboard chased and the backrider who was armed with an M16 rifle shot him several times about 300 meters away from the Sta. Maria main road,

Witnesses said that after the first two consecutive shots, Nassar managed to drive his motorcycle while trying to run away, but the gunman continued firing at him while they were in motion. Moments later, Nassar crashed on the left side of the road due to the bullet wounds.

The gunmen sped towards the Sta. Maria main road.

Investigators recovered several spent shells of M16 rifle at the crime scene.

Police were looking into several angles as to why Nassar was kiled and who did it.

Relatives have appealed to authorities to run after the killers and give justice to the victim. – Dan Toribio Jr.
