House Deputy Speaker and District 1 Representative Beng Climaco-Salazar recently took off to Layag-layag, a mangrove area in barangay Talon-Talon to distribute rice to the over 200 families staying in the area.

The rice distribution is part of a joint project of reaching out to as many poor families in the city with the Government of Taiwan through its Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office and the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

“We continue to give out these international donations to our people of Zamboanga as these are all meant for them. During the early batches of our distribution, we prioritized victims of typhoons and this time we have widened our coverage for those who are in need also of our help,” the lady solon said.

Layag-Layag had been one of the areas that was supported by the Save the Zamboanga Kids, a foundation that initiates projects to uplift conditions of the children.

Years back, kids need to swim just so they are able to attend school. Through the foundation, provision of motorized boats were distributed to allow children to go to school conveniently.

“We are happy that through various efforts, we are able to uplift communities. It is very inspiring to see unified efforts of organizations just so we are able to make their lives a bit better,” Climaco added.
