District 1 congressional aspirant Monsi dela Cruz has included in his priority list a program that will provide housing units to the many poor and homeless residents in Zamboanga City, who include the urban poor in District 1, other marginalized sectors including members of the local media.

Monsi said if he will succeed in his bid, he will try to raise funds to purchase a tract of land that is ideal for low cost housing subdivision which will be subdivided for poor and deserving residents who may include some members of the local media.

The servant leader said the possible beneficiaries will be carefully screened and those who will be finally chosen will be given lot parcels as well as construction materials for their simple dwelling.

Monsi said if this project is successful, other similar undertakings will follow to address the housing shortage in Zamboanga City.

“Let’s face it, we have a serious housing problem in the city. There are thousands of residents who don’t have their own dwellings,” Monsi stressed.

He said that there must be a long term program to address the housing shortage which is parallel to poverty alleviation and job creations.

Monsi has long record in the past of donating pieces of land to poor residents.

The latest recipients of Monsi’s philantropic way are RG Antonette Go, a young journalist, and an old woman who sells candles at the Fort Pilar.
