Pirates victimize fishers off Bolong PDF Print E-mail

The leader of a Bantay Dagat clashed with pirates off Soromon Island near Mala, Bolong last Friday morning.

A police report disclosed that around 9 a.m. gunmen aboard a white pumpboat took the boat engine of Alejandro Baltik at gun point off Bisaya-Bisaya Island in Bolong. They sped bringing the engine. Twenty minutes later, the same group tried to rob the boat engine of Ramon Ledesma, Bantay Dagat commander who was fishing off Bucana, Mala, Bolong. However, Ledesma resisted by firing his .45 caliber pistol triggering a brief sea gunfight.

The gunmen withdrew after one of them was hit in the body.

Few minutes later, the same group forcibly took the boat engine of Johnny Cuevas who was fishing off near Bolong waters.

Police said the gunmen were clad in combat cloth and were armed with high powered rifles. -- Dan Toribio Jr.
