A man who is wanted for murder was shot and killed by army soldiers in Busay, Sacol Island last Sunday.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo identified the fatality as Jaamil Majid, a resident of Talabaan. He was shot several times by Army soldiers manning a detachment in Sacol and died on the spot.

De Ocampo said his men led by SPO1 Camins conducted an ocular investigation of the incident and learned that Jaamil was spotted near the Army detachment carrying a handgun.

The soldiers chased and eventually shot him because he reportedly opened fire. A .45 caliber pistol with 107086 serial number was recovered from Jaamil’s possession. It was later learned that he is wanted for murder with Criminal Case No. 2222 Jaamil’s body was brought to Talabaan by relatives for burial.

In another incident, a jeepney driver was shot to death by one of two motorcycle-riding gunmen along the Tumaga-Putik road last Monday night.

Slain was Almashier Abdulwahid y Biao, 33, of Kasanyangan.

Police said that Abdulwahid sustained a bullet wound in the head and was rushed to the Western Mindanao Medical Center where he expired while undergoing treatment.

Initial investigation showed that Abdulwahid was driving a PUJ around 7 p.m. when two men aboard a motorcycle chased and the backrider shot him in the head near the Chinese Cemetery.

The gunmen sped away after the incident while the victim was taken to the hospital.

Police recovered a spent shell of a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Investigators were looking into a personal dispute as the possible motive behind the killing.

Meanwhile, security forces on Monday apprehended a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) during  operations in Barangay Mamagon, Naga town, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Reports identified the suspect as Hadji Amir Moslimin alias “Abu Muhajir”.

Moslimin has two pending criminal cases at the sala of Judge Danilo Bucoy of the Regional Trial Court Branch 9, Isabela City, Basilan.

He was detained at the Zamboanga City central police staton. — Dan Toribio Jr.
