Police have identified one of the two men who ambushed the convoy of teachers along with two police escorts at Sitio Cabigan, Upper Maasin last Wednesday morning.
One of the police escorts was wounded in the ambush.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo identified the suspect as Arvy Francisco y Macaso, 20, single, of Zone 4, Maasin and a former member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit based in Basilan.

De Ocampo said that Francisco is presently out on bail for a theft case.

Francisco was positively identified by witnesses who saw him fleeing after the incident.

Police have readied charges against Francisco and his cohort. Both are still at large.

Francisco and his cohort shot SPO3 Navata Juhassan and PO2 Nurhassan Arasa while they were escorting Cabigan Elementary School Olga Guevarra and two teachers.

They blocked the path of the convoy and opened fire on the police escorts.

Arasa sustained bullet wounds in the left part of the body and left leg while a bullet also hit Juhassan’s jacket.

Francisco and his cohort fled after Juhassan and Guevarra’s husband retaliated with gunfire.

Guevarra’s husband grabbed the pistol of Arasa and fired at one of the gunmen while Juhassan concentrated on the first gunman who shot him. – Dan Toribio Jr.
