The Philippines Coast Guard (PCG) has successfully rescued the 23 crew members of a cement carrier which ran aground after encountering engine trouble off Basilan Thursday.

Lt. Cmdr. Armand Balilo, Coast Guard spokesperson, identified the stricken ship as the M/V Lady Lyn.

After receiving a distress call, two PCG ships immediately sailed to the area and retrieved the crew.

Balilo said they are now determining how to retrieve the ship and investigate how it ran aground despite the good weather conditions.
