People representing the different sectors of the City yesterday paid homage to the late Senator Roseller Lim, as they participated in the different activities held in a celebration dubbed “Dia di Senador Roseller T. Lim”.

Spearheaded by Mayor Celso Lobregat, the people first flocked the St. Joseph Church in Nuñez for the mass and later proceeded to the R.T. Lim monument in Baliwasan (near WMSU) for the wreath laying and the commemorative program.

Last night, Lobregat also led residents and representatives from the different sectors in feting Five (5) outstanding Zamboangueño young leaders in a celebration dubbed FOZYL awards at the Orchid Ballroom of the Garden Orchid Hotel.

Dia de Senador Roseller T. Lim, held pursuant to Ordinance 283, marks the birthday of the late Sen. Lim, who distinguished himself as the first and only Zamboangueño senator and who contributed so much for the welfare of the city and the country.

In his message, Lobregat thanked all those who turned up to participate in the different activities held in  honor of the late senator and challenged residents to emulate in their own way the ideals and qualities espoused by the late official.

“As we celebrate the triumphs and accomplishments of Senator Roseller Lim, may we continue the values he espoused. Let us keep his legacy alive as we face our own challenges as a city and people”, the mayor urged as he called on people to remain untied and continue efforts to keep Zamboanga and the entire country solid and strong.

“More importantly, let us do our share and contribute for the betterment of our beloved Zamboanga City. The city needs active contributors, not passive watchers nor whiners who only know how to gripe about what is wrong about the city but do not offer sound suggestions to our problems”, he stressed.

The mayor likewise thanked the members of the Lim family that included daughter Rosamy, nephew Councilor Rudy Lim, brothers Roberto, former vice mayor, and Rosegildo, former NBI director, and several others for attending the activities.

For her part, Rosamy Lim expressed extreme gratitude to Mayor Lobregat and the City Government of Zamboanga for initiating the holding of the Dia de Senador Roseller Lim in recognition of her father’s contributions during the last 7 years.

She stressed that her father would not have wanted such recognitions, as what he did during his time were done out of passion and out of love for the people, the city and the country.

The senator’s daughter in her response, recalled that her father was not only a man who did good things for his fellowmen but was also a doting father who would focus attention to his family especially his children.

Also present during the activities were Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, City Police OIC Director Col. Edwin de Ocampo, Task Force Zamboanga Chief Col. Glen Macasero, CHED-9 Director Emylou Yanga and numerous other officials.  — Sheila Covarrubias
