Angara to keynote 76th Dia de Zambo PDF Print E-mail

Aurora Congressman Juan Edgardo Angara is expected to keynote the city’s celebration of 76th Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga on February 26 marking the day when the first set of city officials were installed into office. 

The young solon has accepted the invitation extended by Mayor Celso Lobregat and is expected to attend the February 26 event that will kick off with the grand parade to be participated by all sectors from N.S. Valderoza St. to theEnriquez Sports Complex in Baliwasan at 1pm. 

The commemorative program will follow at 3pm and will be highlighted by the  drum and lyre competition with high school participants and the competicion del Sello de Zamboanga tilt.

Angara was in Zamboanga City last July  for a series of events that included gracing the investiture of Dr. Milabel Ho as WMSU president, the conferment of Honoris Causa degree on Mayor Celso Lobregat by the WMSU Board of Regents, the 34th National Disability Rehabilitation and Prevention Week and an event at the Zamboanga
State Polytechnic College.

Meanwhile, activities for the Dia de Zamboanga celebration started Saturday, February 9 with the commemoration of Dia de Senador Roseller T. Lim, the first and only Zamboangueno senator.  The commemoration started with a mass at the St. Joseph Church followed by the wreath laying and the commemorative program at the R.T. Lim monument in Baliwasan and capped by the awarding of the Five (5) outstanding Zamboangueno Young Leaders (FOZYL) at the Garden Orchid Hotel.

February 21 will be the Open Cheer Dance Competition Year 11 with college and high school quads as participants. It will be held at 1pm at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

For the second year, the City Government will co-sponsor with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) the 2nd Zamboanga International Film Festival which gives young and old Zamboangueños the opportunity to screen Filipino and international indie films at the Mindpro cinema. Screening will start at 9am. The Red Carpet Night will be at 7pm at Centro Latino Hall at Paseo del Mar on Feb. 23.

The Zamboanga Food Festival will be held from Feb. 23-24 from 5pm onwards at the Plaza del Pilar featuring local cuisines.

February 25 is set for the Achievers’ Night where Zamboangueños who excel in their individual fields of expertise will be honored and recognized. The event will be held at the Centro Latino Hall at 7pm. — Sheila Covarrubias
