Hegem Furigay’s medcap serves 1,000 Lamitan folks PDF Print E-mail

More than 1,000 barangay folks of Lamitan City received free medical and dental services provided by the Furigay Colleges Inc. headed by its President, Lamitan’s 1st Councilor Hegem Furigay, in cooperation with the local government of Isabela City headed by Mayor Cherry Santos Akbar and her Executive Assistant Jenny Santos Tubongbanua last Friday Feb. 8 at Barangay Ulame, Lamitan City.

In a statement, Hegem Furigay said the medical mission is part of FCI’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) thrust to provide free medical, social and dental services to barangay folks especially those who are situated in the far flung barangays of the city. The medical and dental services  were also received by residents of four other nearby barangays, namely, Baungos, Tumakid and Tandang Ahas, precisely why the big turn-out of patients.

Furigay also said that while FCI officers and staff headed by Dean Susan Marin provided the personnel assistance, he as the college’s President also provided all the needed medicines and medical equipment on his personal capacity to ensure the success of the mission.

He further explained that the local government of Isabela supplied the doctors and dentists precisely why it became a huge project of Furigay, Akbar and Tubongbanua. He also added that the cluster of barangays Ulame, Tumakid, Baungos, Tandang-Ahas and Tumakid are situated closer to the boudaries of Lamitan and Isabela cities. Security was provided by personnel of the Army’s 32nd Battalion and 19th Special Forces assigned in Basilan.

Furigay also emphasized that the Free Medical and Dental Services of FCI will continue throughout 2013 as it is now preparing for another Summer Medical and Dental Mission  to include Operation Tuli to be assisted by the Medical Staff of Western Mindanao Command Hospital and some private medical practitioners from Zamboanga City scheduled for April 2013.

Apart from the medical and dental services, Shieza Furigay, President of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Lamitan Chapter, owner of Yes Haircutters and wife of Hegem Furigay also provided the residents with free haircuts. More than 100 residents availed of the said service, Furigay said.

Meanwhile, Councilor Hegem Furigay is also known as the “Sports Godfather” of Lamitan being the most active official and benefactor of sports development in the city. He is  reportedly the strongest bet of the Youth Sector for the mayoralty race in May 2013. — KS
