Commission on Elections Regional Director Atty. Francisco G. Pobe graced yesterday’s Monday flag raising and awarding ceremonies for some policemen at Camp Abendan in Mercedes, this city.

Pobe, who is the chairman of the Regional Joint Security Control  Center, told policemen that today (Tuesday) is the start of the  campaign period for senatorial candidates and it is expected they will be putting up their posters and campaign materials in the different designated areas.

“The  Philippines is not a dumping area of garbages from the candidates or politicians’ campaign materials, that is why the Comelec has established designated areas nationwide where the campaign materials can be posted. If they (candidates) violated the resolutions or directives of the Comelec, their paraphernalia should be removed. The Comelec needs the help of policemen to remove the paraphernalia  or campaign materials posted not in designated areas,” Pobe said.

He also commended the policemen of PRO-9 under the leadership of Chief Supt. Juanito B. Vaño for the seizure of several firearms from persons who don’t have Comelec gun ban receipt and for the filing of cases against illegal possessors.

“Policemen here in PRO9 are very commendable for a job well done in implementing the Comelec gun ban,” Pobe said.

He also congratulated the awardee-policemen who were honored yesterday morning, including Zamboanga del  Norte Police Provincial Office Director Sr. Supt. James Mejia, Zamboanga del Sur PPO Director Sr. Supt. Thomas Abellar and ZDN Provincial Mobile Commander Supt. Reynaldo M. Maclang. —  Allen Abastillas
