The Police Watch Zamboanga (PWZ) is now in the process of evaluating and accepting nominees for the annual search for the 10 outstanding policemen of the year for the calendar year of 2012.

Veteran broadcaster Arsenio “Rawhide” Nuevo representing PWZ disclosed that after consulting with PWZ members, he came up with the scheduled awarding ceremony that will be held on February 24, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Grand Astoria Hotel’s Lotus Restaurant.

To be honored are 20 police nominees, ten of whom will be selected as 10 outstanding cops for the year 2012.

As in the past,  there is no specific criteria in the selection of the awardees. Being considered are their performance and accomplishments during the one-year period.

Also to be honored are ten members of City Hall’s Traffic Enforcers. Their selection will also be based on their daily battle against the chaotic traffic situation in the city.

The annual search for the 10 best cops of the city is on its 8th year with the Astoria Group of Companies to include the Grand Astoria Hotel, Astoria Regency, Daily
Zamboanga Times, Zamboanga Today and Astoria Printing and Publishing Co. as sponsor. Congressman Erbie A. Fabian likewise gives his full support to this endeavor.

For security reasons and the safety of their families, the accomplishments of the 10 best policemen are never divulged to the public.

Members of the PWZ come from different walks of life. They include some active members of the media who in their daily news gathering are more familiar with the local police activities.
To be invited are the awardees and their immediate family members and some local personalities. – Dan Toribio Jr.
