Mayor Celso Lobregat colored red the mass wedding rites for 106 couples through the sponsorship of the Pag-IBIG Fund yesterday, Valentine’s Day, at the posh Centro Latino, Paseo del Mar Complex.

In his gesture of love on Valentine’s Day, Lobregat distributed roses to the 106 couples and obliged himself to photo ops for posterity, and told them that marriage involves two people who love and accept each other and are willing to spend the rest of their lives together.

“It is also important that unions get the blessing of God and/or society. Marriage may be between two people, but as members of the community, couples must also observe societal norms for the union to be accepted and recognized,” he said.

“Formality or not,” he said “marriage is also a confirmation of one’s love for his/her partner. Today, you made a vow in front of all these people to love and respect your spouse till death do you part. Please remember that promise for the rest of your lives.”

“You have entered a new milestone in your relationship but I hope you realize that marriage is not the end of romance. Now more than ever, whether as husband or wife, be sure to make your partner feel that they are loved and needed,” Lobregat further told the 106 newlyweds.

“Be each other’s support and try solving problems together. And if disagreements arise, discuss them calmly. Together you are stronger; nothing and no one can break you apart, unless you let them.”

Finally, the mayor congratulated and thanked the Pag-IBIG Fund for this successful activity.

Present during the event were officials from the PAG-IBIG Fund Regional Office, National Statistics Office, Department of Justice and several others.  — Vic Larato
