WMSU bags cheer dance title PDF Print E-mail

The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Juggernauts bested four other pep squads to emerge as this year’s cheerdance champion.

Showcasing high throws and impressive stunts, the group took home the P30,000 cash prize and trophy. In addition, each Juggernaut was also awarded a medallion.

Second place was awarded to the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology’s CME Sailors Squad with a P20,000 cash prize and a trophy while CET Hawks, WMSU’s other entrant, finished third and received P15,000 and trophy.  

Mayor Celso Lobregat, accompanied by Cong. Beng Climaco Salazar and Councilors Myra Abubakar, Percival Ramos, Eddie Saavedra and Rogelio Valesco Jr., personally awarded the prizes to the winning teams.

The other participants in the cheering competition were the ZCHS Phoenix Pep Squad of the Zamboanga City High School Main, and Ateneo RNM, which received consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, Four Twenty BTB won best hiphop dance group, grabbing P5,000. G-Slide Grafiti and Ask Extreme placed second (P3,000) and third (P2,000), respectively.

The Open Cheerdance and Hiphop competitions are part of the activities lined up for the 76th Dia de Zamboang.

A special appearance by singer-actress Julie Anne San Jose spiced up the back to back event held at the City Coliseum in Tetuan February 21. — Claudine Uniana
