Mayor Celso Lobregat turned over to the Zamboanga City Police Office the city government’s donation of 30 units XRM motorcycles amounting to P2.070 million shortly after the commemorative program, marking the 76th Dia de Zamboanga Tuesday afternoon at the JFE Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan, this city.

Lobregat turned over the keys of the motorcycles to PNP regional director Chief Supt. Juanito Vaño who in turn handed over the keys to ZCPO director Sr. Supt. Edwin de Ocampo in the presence of Aurora congressman now Team Pinoy senatorial candidate Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara together with House Deputy Speaker Beng Climaco-Salazar, Rep. Erbie Fabian, Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde and some members of the City Council.

The chief executive said the 30 brand new motorcycles costing P69,000 each is just part of the continuing assistance that the city government under his administration has been extending to the local police for peace and order operations.

He said the city has been constructing police stations in the growth barangays, donated computers, communications equipment, pump boats for sea patrols, firearms with ammunitions and other administrative support like gasoline allowance and monthly cash incentives.

Congressman Angara could not help but admire Lobregat’s efforts in helping the police even as he also recalled that during his last visit to the city late last year he also witnessed the mayor turning over 4x4 pickup vehicles to the barangays in front of City Hall.

“In my place we could only give bicycles pero hanggang ngayon wala pa kahit isa. What else can I give for Zamboanga? Binigay na lahat ni Mayor Lobregat. Siguro, all I can give you is my love and dedication to service if elected to the senate,” Angara said.

Angara was in the city Tuesday to keynote the 76th Dia de Zamboanga program. He was earlier accompanied by teammates Sen. Chiz Escudero and Grace Poe. — Vic Larato
