Floral seal, drum and lyre contest winners bared PDF Print E-mail

The Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Talisayan and the Technical High School of Universidad de Zamboanga dominated the Floral Seal and the Drum and Lyre competitions held during the 76th Dia de Zamboanga commemorative program Tuesday afternoon at the JFE Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan, this city.

Both the Talisayan SK and UZ Technical High School went home richer by P15,000 each while the latter’s trainer bagged the P5,000 cash incentive for Best Trainer in the drum and lyre competition which was participated by seven secondary schools.

Mayor Celso Lobregat personally announced the winners and handed to them the cash prizes and trophies after the 76th Dia de Zamboanga program. He was assisted by the guest of honor and speaker, Aurora Congressman now Team Pinoy senatorial aspirant Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara together with the city’s two congresspersons Rep. Beng Climaco-Salazar of District 1 and Rep. Erbie A. Fabian of District 2.

Other winners in the floral seal competition were the Alpha Phi Omega in the second place, winning P12,000 cash, Talisayan Barangay Council in the third place with P10,000 cash, the 530th Edwin Andrews Air Base placed 4th with P7,000 cash and the Western Mindanao State University placing 5th for P5,000.

The Talisayan National High School, meanwhile, won the second prize of P10,000 in the Drum and Lyre competition, while the Zamboanga City High School Main placed third with P5,000 cash prize.

Held under the auspices of the City Mayor’s Office through City Tourism Division headed by Sarita Sebastian-Hernandez, the drum and lyre contest started at 1 p.m. and finished shortly before the entry of the first contingent of the civic-military to the grandstand.

The floats carrying the flower-decked seals of Zamboanga, on the other hand, joined the 3-hour-long parade amid the scorching sun from City Hall grounds to the grandstand. — Vic Larato
