As part of a series of pulong-pulong, Vice Mayoral aspirant Mercy Arquiza has spoken to barangay officials and leaders of Putik and Lunzuran.

Described by her friends and supporters as “cariñosa, sincera and mafuerza,” Mercy explained her advocacies on the promotion and protection of women, children and family.

Mercy is touring the barangays “whistle stop” style to learn about community problems and offers suggestions on addressing the same.

She called for a strong, hardworking, and independent Sangguniang Panlungsod that, in crafting measures and ordinances, it can be dictated upon only by the interest of the city and its people, not the vested interests of the few.

She likens the city council to a household in which the mother guides the children in their activities, In the Sanguniang Panlungsod, the presiding officer can guide its members and directs them in a style with a smile. Of course when necessary, discipline can be instilled.

“That’s why a woman leader can have advantages as presiding officer of the SP,” Mercy Arquiza stressed.”Especially if that woman is carinosa and sincera, and mafuerza,” Arquiza continued amid loud applause and cheers.

Finally, she urged the present and the incoming city council to mount a massive information, education and communication campaign to make women aware of their rights under the Magna Carta of Women, the heads, and other members of family their rights under The Family Code.

“The council should research and catalogue all local ordinances and resolutions that support the above-mentioned national laws and statutes and make the family aware of them.
