Philippine National Police Chief Director-General Alan M. Purisima flew to Simunul Island, Tawi-Tawi yesterday morning to assess the situation and the general welfare  of the people in the area in connection with  the Sabah crisis.

Purisima was accompanied by Director Napoleon R. Estilles of the Directorate for Plans and Logistics to know  directly the operations of the police in adopting security measures in the area so that followers of the Sulu Sultanate can be prevented from going to Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia where an armed confrontation between the Sultan’s followers and Malaysian forces has resulted to several fatalities. — Allen Abastillas
