Zamboanga City golfers emerged as 1st Runner-Up in the category of “Sports Writers Division Award “ during the 66th Philippine Airlines InterClub Golf Tournament held in Cebu City from February 25 to March 2, 2013.

The PAL tournament is the most prestigious amateur golf tournament in the country wherein only the best of the best compete. 

The tournament was held at the golf courses of Mactan Island Golf Club and Cebu Golf and Country Club.

Zamboanga City Team Captain Raymond Padayhag said the Zamboanga City Team was composed of  Isaak & Eldon Elumba, Joseph Dy, Niño Chiong, Henry Ratag, Tony Kong, Emir Abutazil, Patrick Lee, Ronald Wee and Edi Ping Lim.

Padayhag said that Isaak Elumba was the highest scorer of the team.

“We won the tournament because we have a well balanced team. We did our team efforts and do our best to win the competition,” Padayhag said.

The champion of the tournament was Club Filipino de Danao. Other  major awards are Founders Division and Friendship Awards. Zamboanga City Team also  became the Champion in the 2006 tournament held in Cagayan de Oro City, first runner-up in 2011 and also first runner-up in 2012..

A total of 105 teams participated in the tournament. Players came from the USA, Vancouver Canada, Riyadh, Australia, British Columbia, Middle East and Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. — Allen Abastillas
