PRO-9 reactivates ‘Bantay Lakbay’ PDF Print E-mail

The Police Regional Office-9 has re-activated “Oplan Bantay Lakbay” aimed to ensure the safe and secure travel of motorists and commuters in their various destinations as classes for school year  2013 is about to end.

The Operational Plan will align on various activities most likely to emerge like observance of the Holy Week, town fiestas, family out-door vacation and Flores de Mayo which are expected to create an influx of commuters and tourists who will travel to and from other places and these are possible targets of some lawbreakers.

Problem on traffic congestions may also be experienced by motorists and other occurrences that will mildly affect the peace and tranquility of the area.

Western Mindanao Police Director Chief Supt Juanito Vaño Jr., disclosed that depending on the assessed situation if warrants, the  police force may be placed on full alert status to guard and secure air, sea and land terminals, churches, houses, all vital installations and facilities, tourist spots and other places of convergence that are vulnerable to criminal  and terrorist threats.

“Whether there is a threat or not, the PNP is not taking any chances, and thus prepared and committed to provide security and safety to the public during the Lenten Season and summer vacation,”Chief Supt Vaño said.

He advised the public to plan ahead and make sure that their houses are secured while they are away during the long weekends and warned them to exercise extra precaution against lawless elements by bearing in mind the practical tips the police have been reminding them throughout the years.

He reassured the public that the police will remain on the guard to protect lives and properties and will continue to pursue its mandate of preserving peace and order especially during the peaceful observance of the sacred week and the rest of the summer vacation.

He made this call to all police forces under his command to intensify Police Integrated Patrol System (PIP) and to establish publish flyers and primers on basic crime prevention tips and measures to be used as a guide or reference by the public.

Also to reactivate Police Assistance Center (PACs) which has been established under “Oplan Bantay-Lakbay”, in strategic locations and other major thoroughfares to serve as quick-reaction points for police emergency and medical response, and advance command post for traffic management and security operations, he added. — Noning R.
