The camp of Lamitan City mayoralty top contender Hegem Furigay has denounced and condemned the defacing and destruction of big tarpaulins posted by several officials in Basilan in different parts of the Lamitan-Isabela Highway congratulating the young politician on his having been chosen as the Regional Winner and one of the Finalists of The Outstanding Councilors of the Philippines (TOCP) 2012.

Hegem’s supporters and followers described the defacing and destruction of the tarpaulins as an “act of desperation, dirty and foul tactic employed by certain political detractors which has only drawn sympathy from Lamiteños.”

In a press statement, Hegem’s camp said the tarpaulin defacing has instead earned the ire of Lamitan folks against the perpetrators suspected to be followers of certain political opponent.

Some of the tarpaulins were torn down and some were set on fire.

“This is a barbaric and uncivilized act. But it boomeranged on the people who did it,” said the press statement.

Meanwhile, the young Councilor Hegem Furigay, who is aspiring for the top post in Lamitan, called on his political opponents to conduct the political campaign on high level and decency without resporting to blacl propaganda, dirty tactics and mudslinging.

“Let us show to our dear people of Lamitan that we are highly civilized and educated ... We should present to them vital issues and our platform for them to analize and make good decision,” Hegem said.

Hegem lamented that some political detractors have to resort to defacing the tarpaulins without realizing that their act will boomerang on them.
