It is now definite, the Sinclair Paints Super League 2013 will get underway here in Zamboanga City on April 14 at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Memorial Coliseum in Tetuan.

This was the announcement made by Super League 2013 local organizer FBZ President and SBP Area head and Trustee Pedro Alfaro Jr. during last Saturday’s meeting of coaches of teams taking part in the inaugural venture of the league in Zamboanga City.

As of last Saturday 9 teams have confirmed participation with Alfaro optimistic of getting anywhere between 10 to 12 teams to participate in the tournament jointly sponsored by 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian.

The tournament which drew a category Under-22 classification of play will feature teams from Tawi-Tawi, Basilan and Sibugay apart from local squads joining the tournament.

Entered and confirmed participation are the teams from Ateneo which will carry he colors of Weezam Shipping, the Guiwan selection, Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, the Unibersidad de Zamboanga Wildcats, Western Mindanao State University, the TawiTwai Black knights, team Sonet and the two teams entered by Cong. Fabian the Southern City Colleges bulldogs and the Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School.

Final confirmations are being awaited of the Sibugay squad, the Basilan team and Team Golden Boys.

Getting to 10 teams minimum will automatically make the Zamboanga City tourney a Cluster regional elimination finals, meaning the champion of the tourney earns an outright berth in the national finals set for May 30 to June 2 in Metro Manila, Alfaro added.

Alfaro expressed his deepest gratitude to Cong. Fabian, a long -time partner in many a tournament organized by the FBZ and the SBP in the city and Sinclair Paints’ coordinator Darren Evangelista for making the tournament possible in the city.

The series of tournaments held by FBZ and SBP have provided local hoopsters an avenue to excel and have become gems for finding new talents from the city and the nearby provinces.

The success of these tourneys Alfaro added can be gauged by the number of local players now displaying their wares in premier cage tournaments in Metro Manila and key cities of the country.

They started with us and now they are on their way to making names of themselves as future stars of the game, Alfaro added.

A final briefing of all teams and coaches will be conducted a week before the tourney gets underway to finalize rosters, game schedules and other matters pertaining to the Super League tournament.
