Jovian Diesto, former Assistant Editor of Daily Zamboanga Times is among the 949  successful examinees who passed the Bar examinations  given on October last year.

Diesto worked as Assistant Editor of Daily Zamboanga Times for more than two years. He was also a general reporter covering City Hall and other government offices.

A total of 5,343 bar too the Bar Exam and only 949 passed, constituting 17% of the total examinees, according to the results released by the Supreme Court.

An original 5,686 were admitted to take the bar but only 5,343 completed the four-Sunday examinations.

As per tradition, the names of the successful examinees who garnered the ten highest scores were also released.

Ignatius Michael D. Ingles of the Ateneo de Manila University topped the 2012 Bar examinations with a rating of 85.64%.

The others in the top 10 are Catherine Beatrice O. King Kay of ADMU, with 84.72%; April Carmela B. Lacson of the University of the Philippines, with 84.48%; Xavier Jesus D. Romualdo of ADMU, with 84.10%; Maria Graciela D. Base of UP, with 83.99%; Jose Maria Angel P. Machuca of ADMU, with 83.99%; Patrick Henry D. Salazar of UP, with 83.71%; Ralph Karlo B. Barcelona of Aquinas University, with 83.43%; Marvyn S. Llamas of ADMU, with 83.29%; Carlo Martin C. Li of ADMU, with 83.27%; and Francis Paolo P. Tiopianco of UP, with 83.25%.

The oath-taking of the successful Bar candidates will be on April 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The SC conducts the Bar examinations once a year pursuant to its constitutional mandate under Article VIII, Section 5 which provides that it shall have the power to promulgate rules governing the admission to the practice of law. (PNA)
