Forming part of the City Government’s massive education-related projects, the garments building at the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) in Baliwasan will be inaugurated and unveiled today.

The garments building is one of the 3 latest infrastructure projects that the City Government is implementing in the ZCSPC campus.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, who will spearhead the unveiling rite today together with ZCSPC President Dr. Nora Ponce, said the two other projects that are ongoing for the state college are the P24M multi-purpose building or gymnasium and the P6.1 million 2-storey 6 classroom building for the College of Engineering.

In 2009, the Polytechnic College was also a recipient of a 2-storey 8 classroom building for its high school department.

From 2007-2012, the City’s investment in education has reached a staggering amount of P1.3 billion. The projects are concentrated in public elementary and secondary schools,  however, institutions of higher education in the City are also recipients of the assistance and support from the local government.

Aside from the ZCSPC, the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMT) as well as the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) are also beneficiaries of the city’s education initiatives.

The ZSCMT is a recipient of a 17-door apartment type dormitory complex worth P9.33 million during turnover rites held June 27, 2012 while ongoing at the WMSU campus right now is the P25M dormitory which had its groundbreaking last February. — Sheila Covarrubias
