BFP conducts Fire Olympics PDF Print E-mail

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Regional Office 9 and Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) the other day conducted a fire drill competition dubbed as “Fire Olympics 2013,” at the Sta. Maria Elementary School playground. The opening program was graced by Councilor Rodolfo R. Lim as guest of honor and speaker.

ZCFD District Fire Marshal Supt. Dominador F. Zabala Jr, said that eight teams were selected from the different units/fire stations under the areas of responsibilities of the Zamboanga City Fire District and BFP Regional Office 9 participated in this one-day activity.

Zabala said there were four events during the competition, which include Fire Rescue and Transfer Relay Operation; Hose Laying and Replacement of Busted Hose, Bucket Relay Event and tug-of-war.

He added that the annual “Fire Olympics” aims to promote camaraderie, unity and teamwork by and among members of the BFP and fuether to enhance their skills, maintain stamina to make them (firefighters) efficient and effective during any fire fighting operations.

He said the awarding of prizes and recognition of winners will be held during the “Fire Prevention Month” culminating program on April 1, 2013.

“We are appealing to the general public to be extra fire-safety conscious and to help prevent fires and make everyday a fire prevention day to prevent the loss of lives and properties,” Supt. Zabala concluded.
