Fuerza Zamboanga, the coalition of independent candidates led by mayoralty bet Erbie A. Fabian, his running mate Atty. Luis Climaco and District 2 congressional bet Lilia Macrohon-Nuno took the battle to the streets of Zamboanga City yesterday and took the old public market by storm in a man-to-man house-to-house campaign to formally open its bid for the forthcoming May 13 polls.

The first sorties included Guardia Nacional, the Sangguniang Panglunsod Complex , City Hall and the local government complex culminating in a grand rally at Plaza Pershing last night.

Fuerza Zamboaga’s 1st day campaign sorties was kicked off with a Mass celebrated at the St. Ignatius Parish Church in Tetuan, breakfast and a short pow-wow with supporters and friends at a local restaurant before motoring to Fort Pilar to offer prayers and candles to Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar then onwards to the sorties mentioned earlier.

Fabian, on his final term in Congress, addressed the throng of supporters present at the breakfast gathering and reiterated the group’s blueprint for the years to come if Fuerza Zamboanga comes off victorious and takes the helm of the city.

Solve the blackout problem immediately, stop criminality in the city and call for a moratorium in the imposition of new taxes are top in the must do list of the group.

“Running for mayor is a commitment to our people’s desire for me to continue serving as I wind down my 9-year stint in Congress, I look forward to continue on and with the people’s support and God’s will to restore Zamboanga back to its eminent status in Mindanao,” Fabian said.

“I’m encouraged by the enthusiastic response of the people to our candidacy, me and my party mates will draw inspiration from these outpouring of support and together we will work to achieve our goals for the city,” Fabian added.

In his consultations and pocket meetings leading up to yesterday’s first day of campaigning, Fabian and his party mates have been greeted by warm reception as people touched bases anew with the solon who has been serving the city in various capacities for over 20 years now.

“There is a connection when Cong. Erbie meets with the people, be they poor folk, rich people, urban or rural dwellers, men or women, young and the old,”a grizzled political veteran enthused while watching the Fuerza Zamboanga bet for mayor work his way among the crowd.

Fabian and his Fuerza mates are set to swing to the city’s outlying barangays in the next few days as the blue juggernaut gathers steam and momentum.
“We will tell the people of our plans, of what we can do and how we maybe of help as this, is going to be the benchmark of our party,” he said.
