Fuerza Zamboanga District 2 congressional candidate Lilia Macrohon Nuño yesterday justified her many travels to Manila and other places in 2012 and first quarter of this year stressing that most of them have something to do with her being the national president of the Rural Improvement Club (RIC).

Nuño was reacting to some negative comments on the travels of members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod that were published in this newspaper and other publications.

As for her travels, Nuño said in a press statement that almost all of them were related to her being the national president of RIC, a nationwide non-government organization which is rural or barangay-based, uplifting the living standard of its members and making them effective and productive partners of the government in community development. It is initially supported by the Local Government Unit (LGU).

Showing various documents on travel orders, Nuño emphasized that all her travels have been authorized by Mayor Celso Lobregat.

“My being the national RIC president requires me to travel to Manila and other places. All of them were official and not for pleasure or entertainment,” Nuño pointed out.

In fact, she said, her official travels had reaped P19 million worth of projects for the city RIC.

Aside from RIC, Nuño is active in other Rural Based Organizations. She is also involved in Gender and Development (GAD) programs.
