Official tryouts for young aspiring basketball players will be conducted tomorrow April 6 by a battery of local coaches for the forthcoming Coca Cola Jr. NBA Young stars tournament at the Mayor VitalianoAgan Memorial Coliseum in Tetuan.

Coaches led by Ednie Morones, Rey Gallo and Roy Lim will spearhead a group of coaches who will screen interested players for possible inclusion in 10 teams being assembled for the tournament scheduled to start April 20 for players 16 years old and below.

Tryouts will commence at 8:00 am.

FBZ President and SBP Area Head and Trustee Pete Alfaro Jr. said this will be the first staging of the tourney here in the city.

Joel Quintanes, tournament coordinator, disclosed each of the 10 teams must be composed of players as follows, 3 players born in the year 2000, 3 players born in the year 1999, three players born 1998 and the final 3 players born 1997.

Quintanes further explained eliminations round will be from 21 to the 27th followed by the semi-final round will commence the following day with the local finals set for May 1.

He added the regional eliminations which will be staged here will be on May 10, 11 and 12 which he added will constitute the Mindanao finals of the tourney.

Teams winning the Cagayan de Oro and Davao eliminations will be participating along with the local winner.

The national finals will be staged in Metro Manila from May 19-26th.

Alfaro and Quintanes enjoined all those interest who qualify under the specified age group categories aforementioned to come and take part in the tryouts.

Those passing scrutiny of the coaches will make the roster of the teams being assembled, Alfaro added.
