A barangay tanod was killed after he was stabbed eight times in Barangay Dulian in the eastern part of the city last Sunday night.

Sangali Police Station commander Chief Insp. Elmer Acuña identified the fatality as Emelito Saavedra, married. He was reportedly stabbed by Roel Elabasantos, a farmer of the same place.
Acuña said that Elabasantos with some companions were having a drinking session at a store around 8 p.m. when Saavedra arrived and entered the store where they figured in a heated argument that led to the stabbing.

Acuña said the duo had a previous personal dispute which was revived when Elabasantos got drunk and engaged in an altercation with Saavedra.

Elabasantos pulled out a knife and stabbed Saavedra eight times then fled.
Saavedra was rushed to the hospital but expired on the way.

Acuña said they went on a hot pursuit operation but the suspect was nowhere to be found. — Dan Toribio Jr.
