Former councilor Luis Climaco re-echoed his call for an “independent” city council, citing the need to restore the august body to what it was once, a bastion of free expression, hotly contested debates and crafting of relevant legislation for the general benefit of the city.

Climaco who is making a strong comeback for public office as running mate of Cong. Erbie A. Fabian said he decided to join forces with Fabian and 2nd District Congressional bet, Councilor Lilia Macrohon Nuno after he was convinced the Fuerza Zamboanga is committed to restore the council to its former independent state.

“It will be healthy if each branch of the local government acknowledges the others as co-equal with mutual respect that we can attend to the tasks at hand free from external pressures especially on key matters coming our way in the future,” Climaco said.

He declared that he believes in Fabian’s capability to lead the city into the future and vowed cooperation and excellent working relations if they come out victorious this coming elections.

“My almost 29 years as a practicing lawyer and my 15 years of  experience as city councilor will serve me well in my desire to become the next vice mayor of this city,” Climaco said.

Climaco added he, Nuno and their entire council slate is committed to push for the implementation of various programs based on the group’s 10-point agenda to address the pressing problems of the city. — FZ PR
