Fulfilling his promise to the barangays, Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday turned over motorized pumpboats to 8 island villages in addition to the multicab vehicles already turned over to the same Costing P146,000, each motorized pumpboat has twin engines with 16 horse power and made of the Honda Mega brand.

Lobregat said the watercrafts will help improve mobility from the island to the mainland and can be used during emergency situations, for patrol purposes or even to ferry teachers to and from the islands.

Assisting Lobregat during the turnover rite, held at the Paseo del Mar, were Councilors Mike Alavar, Percival Ramos, Eddie Saavedra and VP Elago including District II congressional aspirant Jomar Lobregat, council aspirants Art Onrubia, BG Guingona, Kit Barredo and Elong Natividad. Also present were Chief Executive Assistant Mario and EA1 Caloy Bandaying.

Present to receive the pumpboats were barangay chairmen from the 8 barangays—Hadji Attang Mohammad Nur of Tigtabon, Carsona Abunawas of Tumalutab, Abubakar Hakim of Manalipa, Khadafi Jailani of Pangapuyan, Husnie Arabassa of Landang Laum, Jul Adjula of Landang Gua, Patta Allang of Pasilmanta and Baddah Lassal of Busay.

Lobregat during the turnover asked the barangay chairmen to make proper use as well as to take good care of the watercrafts. He likewise thanked the island officials for the honor and the privilege given him to serve the people and the City of Zamboanga as mayor not only for one term of 3 years, 2 terms of 6 years but 3 terms of 9 years.

On behalf of the Team PNoy District II candidates, Lobregat, who is seeking the congressional seat in District 1, likewise thanked the barangay officials for the warm welcome afforded to the team during the sortie last Sunday.

“Ya informa comigo si [mayoralty aspirant] Cong. Beng [Climaco] kay bien caliente el resibida kanila alla kay porcausa bien manada gayot kita maga projects ya implimenta na maga isla”, Lobregat told the island barangay chairmen.

Meanwhile, Hadji Attang of Tumalutab and Arabassa of Landang Laum in separate interviews hailed the City Government under the leadership of Mayor Lobregat for the numerous projects implemented in their barangays and especially for the multicab and now the pumpboats turned over to them.

Attang recounted that coming to the mainland before would require the renting of pumpboats. “Alegre came ahora cay bien grande ayuda gayot este maga pumpboats na di amon lugar”.

Arabassa said the watercraft turned over to his barangay will be a big help to the constituents especially during emergency situations.

Recall that last year, Lobregat turned over 4x4 pick-up vehicles to each of the 90 mainland barangays. The 8 island barangays also received multi-cab vehicles with pumpboats which were turned over yesterday.

With appropriations approved by the City Council, the city has earmarked P92 million for the purchase of the vehicles in line with the city’s focus on the community, environment, livelihood, security and order in the barangays.

The appropriations were supported by Councilors Nonong Guingona, Luis Biel III, Rey Candido, Rogelio Valesco Jr., Abdurahman Nuno, Lilia Nuño, Myra Paz Abubakar, Percival Ramos, Mike Alavar, Rudy Lim, VP Elago, Jimmy Cabato, Joana Mas and Eddie Saavedra. — Sheila Covarrubias
