Hegem Furigay’s dad, 2 others wounded in Lamitan gun attack PDF Print E-mail

The father of young and top mayoralty contender Hegem Furigay, his driver and a supporter, were wounded when gunmen believed to be men from the group of his (Hegem’s) political opponent opened fire on them at Aldana St, Barangay Limook, Lamitan City.

Wounded were Henry “Nonong” Furigay, his driver Bernard Cuevas, and a supporter identified as Hadja Miriam Sergio.

Except for Furigay who sustained a bullet wound in the right ankle and was treated in Lamitan, Cuevas and Sergio were rushed to Zamboanga City for further treatment of wounds in the leg and body at a local hospital.

Reports disclosed Henry Furigay was supposed to meet with Nenita Sergio Blackman near her residence in Limook who vowed to give the Sergio’s support to Hegem’s mayoralty bid in the coming May 13, 2013 elections when the incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m.

According to a report, four unidentified men on board two motorcycles arrived and one of them armed with a handgun opened fire on Henry’s vehicle.

After shooting, the suspects fled to unknown direction.

The Hilux pickup truck of Henry bore 10 bullet holes mostly on the hood.

Earlier, during the conduct of rallies in several barangays, many of Hegem’s supporters had received death threats from unknown texters.

One of Hegem’s poster boys was also threatened and intimidated at gunpoint by a gunman when he was pinning posters on a poster area allowed by Comelec.

With the incident, Hegem has called all on all supporters to be vigilant and alert in the face of threats from unknown suspects.

The youthful mayoralty bet said the deplorable incident and intimidation will not stop him from his usual rallies and meetings with the electorate in the barangays.

“I will not cower in fear amid these threats,” Hegem said in a press statement.

Meanwhile, Lamitan Vice Mayor Arleigh Eisma has also issued similar appeal to his supporters to be extra careful in the face of threats by unidentified men.

This, after his lawyer Atty. Homer Mabale was critically wounded in an ambush at dawn yesterday by unknown gunmen near his residence at Lopez Subdivision, Tugbungan, Zamboanga City.

Mabale’s office staff identified as Emmanuel Lozada and his brother Jerome were killed in the attack.

The two brothers were staying with Mabale at his residence.

The three arrived at 3 a.m. on board a vehicle when they were ambushed by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

The brothers died on the spot while the wife of Mabale who was awakened by the gunshots rushed her husband to the hospital. — KS
