Lawyer hurt in ambush, two office staff killed PDF Print E-mail

Motorcycle-riding gunmen ambushed a local prominent lawyer, seriously wounding him and killing his two companions Barangay Tugbungan at dawn yesterday.

Atty. Homer Mabale of Lopez Subdivision sustained a gunshot wound in the lower armpit while his companions identified as Jomer Lozada and Emmanuel Lozada were declared dead on arrival in the hospital.

Initial investigation disclosed that Mabale was driving his car with the two Lozadas aboard on their way to the lawyer’s house at the Lopez Subdivision when gunmen aboard a motorcycle opened on them around 3:30 a.m.

Witnesses said when Mabale’s car was about to enter the subdivision, two men riding tandem on a motorcycle appeared and the backrider who was armed with a .45 caliber pistol fired continiuously on the car.

The gunmen then sped towards Tugbungan, police said.

Investigators recovered 5 spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

The two Lozadas were working as staff in Mabale’s law office.

Investigators of the Tetuan police station under Chief Insp. Elmer Acuña were looking on several angles including Mabale’s handling of case against a politician in the region.

Mabale’s ambush added another deadly gun attack in the increasing crime statistics in Zamboanga City which are indicated in a giant poster displayed at the downtown building of Universidad de Zamboanga across City Hall. — Dan Toribio Jr.
