1 killed, 1 hurt as shootout erupts in anti-drug operation PDF Print E-mail

A suspected drug pusher was killed while a civilian was wounded in a crossfire during an anti-illegal drug operation mounted by the police under City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo in Recodo last Sunday.

Five drug suspects were arrested during the operation.

De Ocampo disclosed that the drug operation was carried out around 1:20 p.m. but the drug suspects headed by a certain Eddie Hawi resisted arrest and engaged in a shootout with the lawmen.

Police said that during the exchange of gunfire, Hawi eluded arrest but his cohort identified as Ago Hamja, 47, single, of Recodo was hit in the body and was taken to the Brent Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Balli Musa Sawaldi, 42, of the same place was wounded in the crossfire and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police also identified those arrested as Noel Custodio y Barcelona, 48, married, of Putik, Jerry Rosco y Cuizon, 32, married, of San Roque, Allan Bazan y Francisco, 25, single, of Cacao, Nadil Hamsi y Salail, 32, married, of Campo Islam and Idris Jainar Abirin, 42, married of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. Confiscated from their possession two sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia and a magnum 357 revolver with four rounds of ammunition and two spent shells inside the cylinder.

The drug operation was carried out by CAIDSOTG, Intelligence Section, ANCAR, Ayala Police Station and 3rd MC, RPSB9.

The suspects were placed under investigation while the seized items were forwarded to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for examination. – Dan Toribio Jr.
