Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hataman has asked the ARMM police and the military to investigate on allegations of harassments by suspected partisans against health worker Rissie Torres after allowing her property in Maguindanao be utilized as a campaign headquarters of the Liberal Party.

Reports reaching Hataman’s office said Torres was forced to evacuate outside of Maguindanao after having been asked by relatives of a politician to shut down the campaign headquarters, in a town in the first district of the province, of an LP candidate for municipal mayor.

Hataman also called on the Commission on Elections to look into the issue.

Torres, a contractual health worker of the ARMM’s health department, told reporters she was forced to relocate outside of Maguindanao for fear of her life.

The plight of Torres was first reported Monday by the Radio Mindanao Network’s station dxMY in Cotabato City. She narrated her ordeal to dxMY via mobile phone.

Torres said partisans started harassing here early April after an LP mayoral candidate rented her building, which she “pawned” to a Maguindanaon physician several months ago.

“They asked me to shut down the headquarters or face the consequence of allowing it to be used by a mayoral candidate who belongs to the Liberal Party,” a shaking Torres told reporters in between sobs in a clandestine interview in a Southeastern Mindanao province.

She said some of her relatives have also relocated to safer areas for fear of reprisals.

Torres said among those that asked her to close the LP’s campaign headquarters, pack her things and leave was an incumbent barangay official.

“I did not oppose the use by the Liberal Party of that building because there was prior approval from the Comelec and the chief of the municipal police was aware of it,” Torres said.

Hataman, chairman of the ARMM’s regional peace and order council, said he has ordered the region’s police director, Chief Supt. Noel Delos Reyes, to investigate on the complaints of Torres, who, along with several relatives, already moved out of Maguindanao.

Hataman said he has recommended to the ARMM police to work out peaceful solutions, along with the Comelec, on the security problem now confronting Torres.

Hataman said the ARMM police can provide Torres with security details if necessary.
