The memory of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat lives on as the city prepares to celebrate the Dia di Ma’am Caling coinciding with the late mayor’s birth anniversary on Friday, April 26.

The celebration will kick off with a commemorative mass, to be held at the Holy Trinity Parish in Pasonanca at 4 PM. This will be followed by the wreath-laying ceremony at the Jardin Maria Clara Lobregat at 5 PM.

Capping this year’s celebration is the recognition of the winners of the 2013 Maria Clara L. Lobregat Award for Excellence (MCLLAE) and the opening of the featured exhibit housed by the El Museo de Zamboanga. The said exhibit will chronicle and depict the development of Zamboanga City throughout the years. It is expected to be a constant feature, which the museum hopes to continuously develop.

The Dia di Ma’am Caling is an annual celebration which seeks to honor, celebrate and remember the life and legacy of the late mayor, fondly remembered to this day as Ma’am Caling.

This year’s remembrance marks the 7th commemorative celebration spearheaded by the City since the approval of Ordinance 278 which declares and observes April 26 as the Dia Di Ma’am Caling.

The Dia di Ma’am Caling is part of the 2013 Zamboanga Summer Festival activities which is set to run for the entire summer season. Other notable festival activities include the Concurso de Banda (Battle of the Bands), also on April 26 at 6 PM at the Jardin Maria Clara Lobregat, Juego de Antes 2013 on April 27, and the Festival de las Bellas y Flores and the Parade of Sagalas and Arco on May 25. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
