Councilor Hegem Furigay has been declared as the official candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) for mayor in Lamitan City.

This, after Vice President Jejomar Binay Wednesday morning endorsed and certified the young Furigay as the UNA bet for the mayoralty post in Lamitan against two other contenders during a brief meeting at Lantaka Hotel.

Binay raised Furigay’s hands in a significant gesture formalizing the youthful mayoralty candidate’s lineage to lead UNA in Lamitan City.

“I have learned about the incident when suspected armed men attempted to eliminate your father and about the threats on your life. This does not mean that you will be cowed in fear however, just be careful always,” Binay advised.

The vice president vowed to support the young Furigay in his political aspiration to be the next mayor of the city.

“I know if elected you have the capability to spur economic growth to your sleepy town. Hopefully in 2016 you will be able to help me in my ambition to become the next president of the republic,” Binay said.

Binay along with nine other UNA senatorial aspirants were in Zamboanga City to meet with local UNA candidates headed by Zamboanga del Norte former congressman Romeo Jalosjos.

The UNA candidates staged a big rally at Plaza Pershing where thousands of supporters turned up.

Leading the “Team Colorao,” Furigay vowed to do his best to bring progress to Lamitan and uplift the lives living condition of his constituents.

Furigay briefed Binay on the outcome of his rallies conducted in many populous barangays of Lamitan which have attracted so many supporters.

The number one councillor said he is confident the numbers will even grow bigger as the campaign season goes to the homestretch. — KS
