The scheduled maiden flight of PAL Express tomorrow, May 1, from Zamboanga City to Sandakan, Sabah Malaysia was indefinitely postponed.

Tourism Regional Director Mary June Bugante disclosed that the indefinite postponement came in the wake of Sabah stand-off between supporters of the Sulu Sultanate and the Malaysian police and military.

According to Bugante, the program for the maiden flight includes an opening ceremony that will be graced by both local officials of Zamboanga City and Sabah Malysia. The regular schedule of the flight is Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week.

The flight connecting the two cities will boost economic activities, trade and commerce.

Some local businessmen have expressed optimism that there will be positive development on the Sandakan route once the Sabah standoff is settled. – Allen Abastillas
