An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was arrested and jailed after he made a prank that he was carrying a bomb in his bag aboard an airplane that was about to take off on a flight from Zamboanga to Manila last Tuesday night.

Arrested was Kim Castillo, 45, married, of Surabay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Castillo together with his wife and son boarded an Airphil plane at past 7 p.m. where he jokingly said that there was a bomb inside his traveling bag.

Castillo’s prank was heard by one of the plane stewardesses  who reported it  to authorities.

Acting on the report, airport police arrested Castillo and brought him to the Sta. Maria Police Station where he was detained.

In an interview, Castillo said he was only joking when he said he was carrying a bomb.

He admitted that he drank beer before boarding the plane.

Castillo and his family were bound for Manila, where he was scheduled to fly for Dubai on May 3.

Castillo said he has learned a lesson from what he did which was making practical joke about a bomb aboard the plane.

Chief Insp. Larry Domingo, commander of the Sta. Maria Police Station, said they were still waiting for further decision from Airphil in Manila for any legal action against Castillo.

It will be recalled that popular actor John Estrada was held for questioning by the police after he also joked that he was carrying a bomb while he was about to board a plane on its way to Malaysia several months ago. – Dan Toribio Jr.
