Philippine Integrated Labor Union (PHILU) Zamboanga chapter President Jose Suan yesterday formally endorsed the candidacy of Fuerza Zamboanga standardbearer Erbie A. Fabian for mayor in the forthcoming May 13, 2013 polls.

Suan, who is also Vice President of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines or TUCP, said the endorsement is the manifestation of total support of workers and labor groups of the Fuerza bet for mayor.

“We in the labor sector feel Cong. Erbie Fabian as the best qualified to be our next mayor in the city of Zamboanga after we evaluated who our choice will be for this May elections to endorse,” Suan said in a brief interview yesterday.

Over 3,000 workers in the city gathered yesterday at the Western Mindanao State University Gym for its annual labor day celebrations.

PHILU and TUCP counts in the city over 15,000 workers, the bulk of who are employed in factories in the city’s west coast.

A job fair was also held in the WMSU venue for those seeking employment here in the city sponsored by the Department of Labor and Employment.

Suan’s endorsement of Fabian for Mayor is bolstered by the pocket endorsements earlier of workers in several firms who individually came out with their commitment of support to the candidacy of the last term solon from District II, indicating the general sentiment of the labor sector in Zamboanga City is for Fabian as their bet mayor.

In a brief message after his endorsement, Fabian expressed his profound gratitude to the PHILU and TUCP for the endorsement of his candidacy, saying the labor sector is a critical partner in the desire of the city to progress and develop into the next commercial and industrial hub of the region.

“Rest assured the Fuerza 10-point agenda is crafted  with the labor sector an integral part of our plan to move the city forward, and its support will be critical in all our future plans,” the Fuerza mayoralty bet said. — FZ Media Bureau
