Sixty two persons were killed in shooting incidents in Pagadian City and other parts of Zamboanga del Sur from January  to the present.

A grenade throwing incident also took place at the house of Zamboanga delSur Board  Member Eddie Relacion last week. Fortunately the grenade did not explode.

Highway Patrol Group-9  Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Unit Chief Sr. Insp. Dexter Diones. in a report to HPG Regional Chief Supt. Severino B. Agustin, disclosed that Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Thomas Abellar has created  “Bantay Halalan Task Force“ to investigate the killing of the 62 persons to determine if they are all election-related violence.

It was learned that some of the fatalities were identified as followers of  election candidates.

Bantay Halalan Task Force will serve as a monitoring group, ready to respond to any election related violent incident.    Diones also reported to Agustin that their role in the task force is to enforce the traffic laws, anti-carnapping operations, secure and monitor the entry and exit of motorvehicles entering the highways of the their area of jurisdiction.

“With the prevalent situation here in Pagadian City and the whole province, we are always on red alert,” Diones said. — Allen Abastillas
