Men of the Highway Patrol Group-9  led by Insp. Mervin Claret arrested yesterday afternoon in Barangay  Boalan one of two men who were tagged as the killers of a habal-habal driver in Curuan four years ago.

Arrested was Jolliboy Enriquez.

Supt. Severino B. Agustin,  HPG-9 chief,  disclosed that Enriquez and companion identified as Rodelyn F. Reyes who is at large are suspects in the stealing of Eleuterio  V. Adriano Jr.’s habal-habal motorcycle in Curuan on May 1, 2009.        Enriquez and Reyes hired Adriano to service them in Curuan. At a secluded area in Curuan, the duo forcibly took the Motorstar motorcycle of Adriano and stabbed him with a kris-like knife. The latter died in a hospital.the following day. But before he expired, he  was able to tell his wife and son that Enriquez and Reyes were the persons who stole his motorcycle and stabbed him .

The wife and son had filed a complaint with the police station in Curuan.  In coordination with other police units, the motorcycle was recovered by men of the Sangali Police Station abandoned at a secluded area in Barangay Bunguiao on May 12, 2009. Adriano’s wife also died later due to distress and grief as a result of the death of her husband.

HPG9 case investigator SPO1 Wilfredo P. Ator said that Enriquez was committed in jail under Criminal Case No. 24499 for violation of Republic Act No. 6559 otherwise known as the Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972 as amended by R.A No. 7659 and a crime of murder under Criminal Case No. 26681. The arrest of Enriquez was covered under warrant of arrest under Criminal Case No.  24498 issued by the 9th Judicial Region  Zamboanga City Branch 17. — Allen Abastillas
