The long arm of the law has finally caught on Margani Samla alias Binladen, the notorious and wanted “drug lord” of Recodo,

Samla was captured in Sangbay island,  Basilan during a joint operation of Zamboanga and Basilan police. He was nabbed on the strength of a warrant for murder under Criminal Case No. 25554 issued on May 11 2012 by Regional Trial Court Judge Jesus Carbon.

Samla is one of the top 10 most wanted persons in Zamboanga City. Several times he eluded arrest since lawmen dismantled his drug operations in Recodo one year ago. His illegal activities included a “shabu tiangge” where drug users buy shabu openly.

The crackdown on Samla’s Recodo drug operations last year has resulted in the death of a policeman, the capture of his right hand man identified as Nadzul Alih and several lieutenants and followers and the confiscation of a big quantity shabu.

Among the 20 followers of Samla arrested last year were Daduh Mansul, 38, Ben Samain, 18, Adzhar Jamuddin, 24, Kimhar Jamuddin, 27, Anzar  Adjula, 27, Zahar Dammang, Taufic Samla, brother of Binladen, all residents of Recodo

Police had encountered many difficulties in raiding Samla’s drug den in Recodo as many of his followers were heavily armed.

Police raiding teams were met with bullets coming from the houses surrounding the residence of Samla when they swooped down on the area in several occasions..

The last police raid resulted in the death of a member of the PNP-Special Action Force. – Dan Toribio Jr.
