Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer Chief Insp. Ariel T. Huesca Jr. disclosed yesterday that more than 500 firearms with expired licenses were surrendered recently to the different units of Firearms Explosives Security Agency Guards Section 9  (FESAGS-9) in Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City.

Huesca who is concurrent chief of FESAGS 9 conducted a series of command inspections of the different FESAGS units in the region to account for the surrendered firearms with expired licenses.

The surrendered firearms came as part of the directive of Police Regional  Director Chief Supt. Juanito B. Vaño in connection with the gun ban order of the Commission on Elections for the May 13 election.

Huesca explained that his office continues to educate and remind responsible gun owners to renew their gun licenses.

“We continue to inform people who want to aplly for gun license that there is  no need for them to go to  Camp Crame because FESAGS 9 can process their papers in licensing their guns. The card license can be printed in our office including permit to carry,” Huesca said. — Allen Abastillas
